It was only when middle aged slap me around the head (leaving me mainly deaf in one ear) and left me needing a knee replacement after years of running about football pitches with various levels of dog turds on them, that I finally realized that the one good thing about being 'officially old' is the ability to moan with a skill and voracity that had hitherto eluded me in my more tender years.

For no-one can moan quite like those of more advanced years and no-can gripe, grouse and grumble quite like The Chickpea Darlings full band project Huw Darling (also of The Spanish Amanda fame).

Musically juxtaposing everything from a Rocketship style sense of 90s indie-pop obtuse to genuine jangly indie-pop of The Hannah Barberas, you cannot fail to be enthused by his socio-politico sardonic snips at everything from the youth of today to the barstewards that are the Tory party, as he displays a comic vitriole that is sometimes hidden by his foot-tapping indie-pop.

Grizzling has never felt quite so special as it does in the hands of The Chickpea Darlings and this double album career retrospective of their 'Poets Day' Album (CD1) and the more recent 'Bitter Lemon' and 'Beef' (both EP's on CD2) is the perfect way for 'indie kids' young and old to become one with their inner-miserablist
