"Years ago, I read a magazine article citing some research on car brands and revealing that the motor most favoured by the least intelligent Americans (or, at least, by Americans failing to graduate high school) was BMW. The brand favoured by the most highly educated Americans was Alfa Romeo. I wanted to reflect my feelings regarding BMWs and their drivers in this song, but ended up doing so quite obliquely. I'm sure you'll find the reference, though." - Huw.
